If there’s one thing that Borderlands is most known for, it’s comedy. The amount of comedic relief, referential, and self-referential humor featured in each Borderlands game is staggering, to say the least. It also goes without saying that Borderlands 3 is not exempt from this rule.

Following the release of Borderlands 3’s latest DLC campaign, Bounty of Blood, fans have already begun to find all kinds of things featured in the new campaign. Such as new locations, side quests, legendary weapons, and various Easter Eggs and secrets. Though, one Easter Egg in particular is much more sentimental and meaningful than it is humorous.
One such Easter Egg refers to the outbreak of COVID-19 and how it has impacted both the studio and the developers. There is a hidden room the player can find that has a gigantic wall with a picture of the developers on it. The word COVID is also written on the side of the wall. As a result of coronavirus, it’s safe to assume that this latest DLC was developed remotely and none of the developers could work together in person.
This is not the first time that the developers have made reference to COVID-19 in Borderlands 3. A week ago, the studio allowed players to purchase face masks in-game. These face masks serve as a head skin for the player’s in-game character. The money made goes directly to coronavirus relief as well.
It’s nice to see that even in such trying and difficult times such as these, the developers are still able to make the content that Borderlands fans love and appreciate. It’s amazing to see how much can still be accomplished given the circumstances. Though, one can only hope that someday things will get better.
Borderlands 3 is available now for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
