While the gameplay clip is rather short and uneventful, Borderlands 3 fans are already breaking down the 30-second clip for new information. While the player is just opening chests for the duration of the clip, viewers do get to see brand new Maliwan-branded chests and a handful of new weapons. One of the Maliwan weapons in the chest was a sniper that showed off the new Radiation damage type, which will weaken enemies and open them up for strong weapon combos. It also appears that Borderlands 3 will show a Item Score for pieces of gear that are found throughout the world. While it is currently unknown how the score is calculated, it will likely serve as a good metric for how strong the item is.
Borderlands 3 is making massive changes to how Borderlands guns work in the game, and this clip gives players a glimpse at that change through the loot UI. Each gun manufacturer will feature an intrinsic perk that makes their guns more unique, and the clip shows off Maliwan’s special perk. Each Maliwan weapon in Borderlands 3 will feature two elements instead of one, allowing players to swap back and forth on the fly. Two different Maliwan weapons were shown in the clip - both snipers that featured two different elements. One was able to swap between Radiation and Fire, while the other swapped between Shock and Fire.
Fans are anxiously waiting for Wednesday so they can finally get a taste of what Gearbox Software is putting together for the next big installment in the Borderlands franchise. Fans at home watching their favorite streamers play the game will be able to earn free Borderlands loot through Twitch thanks to the new Borderlands 3 Twitch extension. The gameplay clip showed off a little of the extension’s integration, but fans will have to wait till Wednesday to see the full effect of this new feature.
Borderlands 3 launches September 13 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
