According to Gearbox, Revenge of the Cartels is planned to be a lengthy six-week seasonal event. It’ll be filled with new content to search out and partake in, including new loot drops and also Anointed parts. There’s even an entirely new area named The Mansion for players to discover, with rotating content inside of it so that players will always have something fresh to try out. And if players don’t want to participate, Gearbox will be providing a method for simply turning the event off (or back on again).

The story behind Revenge of the Cartels starts simply. Maurice the Saurian has indebted himself to the wrong people, led by a man named Joey Ultraviolet. Borderlands 3 players will do their part to protect Maurice and clear his debt by fighting rogues across the galaxy. After progressing enough, Maurice will send the player to The Mansion. The Mansion is Joey’s home base and the player will have to take care of him and his goons.
There’s much more to The Mansion than is first obvious, however. According to Gearbox, The Mansion is inhabited by three different gangs that reign over the Cartel. When players go to The Mansion, any of these three gangs will populate the location. That way, players will have to adapt on the fly to their enemies. Gearbox has also made it so that no gang will inhabit The Mansion twice in a row, so that the gameplay shifts with each visit.
Gearbox also says that its implemented Cartel-themed Challenges in the event, which will reward unique event gear as well as 80s-themed cosmetics. Revenge of the Cartels will both be fun to play and worth playing, as Gearbox is learning from criticisms of past Borderlands 3 events.
One final gift was provided by Gearbox as part of today’s reveals. There’s a new Shift Code for players to claim and it provides 5 Golden Keys. Borderlands 3 players can redeem the code “CTWJB-H5HSW-R96RS-5R3BB-H33K5” in-game or via the Shift website and they keys will be delivered to their in-game mail.
Borderlands 3 is available now on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
