While the first Borderlands game introduced the universe, some important characters, and the franchise’s cel shaded look, Gearbox was still finding its footing and figuring out what the series should be. While there are moments of Borderlands’ now iconic humor, such as the splash screen intros for bosses, the game was more serious than other titles. Vault Hunters were silent, gameplay was clunkier, and locations were less varied. The series’ first raid boss did not come until the Secret Armory of General Knoxx expansion, either. However, many remain nostalgic for the title since it was the game that introduced them to Borderlands.

Alongside the starting area of Fyrestone and its memorable layout, one thing that everyone who played the original Borderlands game will remember is its opening cinematic. While tame in comparison to the intros for other Vault Hunter groups, there is something special about Lilith, Brick, Mordecai, and Roland posing on the bus. Cage The Elephant’s “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” is the perfect backing track for these character introductions, and this opening scene felt incredibly unique back in 2009. As such, it makes sense that it stuck with Redditor Zorincian.

Zorincian showcased a spinning 3D model of a Minecraft creation based on Borderlands’ first intro cinematic. Alongside the Borderlands logo in the top left corner, a Pandora sign and a Skag can be seen. This should instantly remind Borderlands fans of the shot from the intro where a Skag is hit by the bus after walking in front of the Pandora sign. Both the Skag and sign are perfectly recreated in Minecraft’s blocky art style, with plants and a tire seen behind the Pandora billboard.

Another detail can be caught by eagle-eyed Borderlands fans if they look in front of the Skag. Not only can some of the series’ money boxes be seen resting on a board, but that board sits atop one of Borderlands’ instantly recognizable ammo crates. Clearly, this artistic fan thought of everything, with their Minecraft project filled with small but meaningful touches. According to Zorincian, the render took them around a month to complete, clearly illustrating their love for their franchise.

Whenever Borderlands 4 releases, fans can expect an intro cutscene that shows off the next lineup of Vault Hunters. Hopefully it proves to be as memorable as the original, as fans are still thinking about the first Borderlands cinematic over 12 years after they first saw it.
