Claptrap has been a part of the Borderlands franchise since it first began, with the character being the first NPC players talk to when climbing off the bus after the original Borderlands intro. He has appeared in every game since then, even becoming playable in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. As for Handsome Jack, the Borderlands 2 villain is arguably the best-written character in the series, with some even seeing him as one of the best antagonists in gaming due to his deep backstory and unique personality. With the pair representing the series well, they are deserving of neat fan art and player creations.

Like other custom-made Borderlands decorations, the Claptrap and Handsome Jack furniture was posted on Reddit by a fan named Ornery_Maintenance_2. Taking the form of a nightstand, the furniture was actually a joint effort on the part of the Redditor and their wife, with the former making the top of the nightstand and the latter making the drawers. Unsurprisingly, the post has done well on Reddit, bringing in over 1,800 upvotes. Many commenters also said that they want their own Borderlands furniture and that the design looks like official merchandise.

The top of the nightstand features Handsome Jack in all his glory, drawn in the style seen during Borderlands 2’s intro cinematic. The artist nails the hand-drawn look, with a Vault Symbol and blood splatter adding to the quality of the design. However, the Claptrap portion of the design deserves just as much praise, as Ornery_Maintenance_2’s wife nailed the look of the robot. The three drawers come together to make up Claptrap’s design, with a subtle change seeing the robot’s yellow body replaced with a light wood.

Close inspection of the furniture reveals some more clever touches, like cel-shaded bullet holes on the furniture’s right side. However, the real star of the show is the handle for the top drawer, which serves as Claptrap’s eye. Fans of Borderlands 2 will remember the opening moments of the game where Claptrap has his eye stolen by Knuckle Dragger, and this nightstand makes it look as if that eye has become loose once again. With so many awesome details, the furniture is truly stunning, showcasing just how creative some gamers can be.

Given that Claptrap and Handsome Jack have a history because of what the villain did to the robot at the end of the Claptastic Voyage DLC, the pairing may be deliberate. Regardless, the final product is terrific, and it will be interesting to see what else the Borderlands fan base comes up with as time goes on.
