Thanks to the work of the modder known as “LordEmil1”, players of Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition on PC can take on the title with the “Third Person Mode” mod and see what it’s like to play through the game with their chosen character class in full view. Should one not want to go into third-person with a keyboard and mouse, the mod’s creator has assured those who download and apply it that the mod also supports controllers.

According to LordEmil1, aiming while having the Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition Third Person Mode mod enabled isn’t always perfect, so players may need to switch back to first person for a few seconds in order to “reset” their aim every 30 minutes to an hour. Also, the mod’s creator provides a tip for Borderlands players to be a little further away from enemies than they expect in order to properly execute a melee attack.

Interestingly enough, LordEmil1’s Third Person Mode mode for Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition isn’t the first instance of a game in the series getting an over-the-shoulder perspective mod. As it so happens, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel has a third-person mod, too.

All things considered, there’s a good chance that many Borderlands fans will return to their copies of the Game of the Year Edition to give the Third Person Mode mod a go, especially since it looks quite well done in action. Whether or not its novelty will sate them until Borderlands 3’s arrival is a different story altogether, though.

Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
