This is one of the major reasons why Boruto is different from its parent series. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has introduced plenty of new characters, who have caught the eye of the fans. Characters such as Boruto, Sarada, Mitsuki, and Kawaki have made an instant impression on the viewers. Boruto especially has been involved in all the major arcs as he is the main character. He has shown incredible strength whenever he has been a part of a fight. It wouldn’t be a stretch to call him the ninja with the most potential, however, there is one character who might have more potential than Boruto, and it is none other than his sister, Himawari.

Himawari’s appearances have been very limited so far. Most of her appearances in the story have been in the filler arcs, which is not surprising considering there is a lack of manga content that the anime can adapt. Himawari was a part of Naruto Gaiden, when Naruto was supposed to be appointed the Hokage. However, things changed completely because of Himawari. When Naruto and the kids were supposed to leave, Boruto and Himawari were running around the house. Boruto had taken Himawari’s favorite soft toy and after a brief tussle, it was torn in half. This made Himawari furious, and she chased her brother all around the house.

She even awakened her Byakugan in the process, which is not something that should be overlooked especially considering the fact that it took a genius like Neji Hyuuga years worth of hard work to awaken the Byakugan. In comparison, it took Himawari just a moment of rage to awaken the dojutsu. This whole incident is a clear indication that Himawari is not without any talent.
As the main character of the series, it is obvious that Boruto Uzumaki is going to grow up to become one of if not the strongest ninja in the world. Earlier it would have been an impossible task as Naruto and Sasuke still existed, and they had outrageous abilities of their own, however, after their fight against Isshiki everything changed. Sasuke lost his Rinnegan when Boruto stabbed him in the eye with a kunai, albeit the young ninja had no clue what he was doing as he was under Momoshiki’s control at that time. Naruto lost Kurama whilst trying to defeat Isshiki. Kurama pointed out a method, which was a double-edged sword, and it would have resulted in the deaths of both Kurama and Naruto. But, it was later revealed that Kurama had lied to Naruto and the new power would only result in the death of the tailed beast. So, the two strongest ninjas were severly nerfed. Currently, Boruto is the front-runner to become the strongest in the world, however, it is possible that Himawari can come close to him.

She possesses the Byakugan, and as she is the daughter of Naruto and Hinata, it is possible that she has inherited Six Paths Chakra, which is one of the strongest abilities in the series. It could be possible that Himawari can even awaken a unique dojustu just like her brother. Her fighting style is incredible for a person of her age, and she could become even better if she trains with her aunt Hanabi Hyuuga, who has been labeled a prodigy of the Hyuuga clan. Also, it is important to remember that in her rage, Himawari managed to knock out Naruto with a well-placed hit to his gut. It is not a small accomplishment by any means especially considering that Naruto is the strongest ninja in the world. With proper guidance, Himawari can end up becoming one of the strongest taijutsu experts in the entire series.
At the moment, it looks highly unlikely that Himawari will surpass her older brother mainly because she has had barely any involvement in the series so far. This makes it extremely difficult to judge her true potential. On the other hand, Boruto has been taking down Otsutsuki clan members and unlocking more powers. He possesses the Jogan and Karma. Both of these abilities make him incredibly powerful. At some point, Himawari needs more screentime so that the readers can get a better understanding of her potential.
